DanCell provided
management services to the founders of the Norwegian operation Nordisk
Mobiltelefon Norge AS including feasibility studies and radio planning
thus contributing to the success of the present operation.
The
network is based on CDMA2000 in the 450MHz band thus providing
excellent broadband coverage with approximately 5% to 10% of the
infrastructure needed for other broadband technologies.
Today
the network is branded under the ice.net label and has by far the most
effective broadband coverage in the country. More information about can
be found on the Norwegian web page at ice.no. The English translation of the webpage can be found at the following link.
This
allows people to work from home and rural industries to be vastly more
effective thus increasing the prosperity in rural Norway and reducing
the traffic pressure on the main roads leading into the capital and
major cities as more people get the opportunity to work locally.
"One
of the obvious but often overlooked aspects of a wider access to the
Internet is the ability to reduce pressure on roads and the huge CO2
emissions and wasted in queues around major cities. Consider as an
example only at the impact it will have in everyday life, if every day
were 10 to 15% fewer cars in the inbound direction on the roads and
around major cities? " says Erik
Hornung.
