Designing the Network and Winning the License WireFree Communications Ltd. requested DanCell to support a feasibility study for a CDMA2000 project in Eire in the 410 MHz band. DanCell was already familiar with the Irish market from the prior work in the country optimizing GSM coverage as part of a feasibility study to invest in Eircell and accordingly accepted the challenge of designing a nation wide Mobile Broadband and Telephony network for Eire.
The network design aimed at providing effective broadband and telephony service in all parts of the country not just in the big cities and the regulators liked the design and business proposal leading to a license being granted to WireFree Communications Ltd.
Building a Mega Hotspot in the Port of Dublin Together with WireFree Communications Ltd. in Dublin DanCell has
designed a Mega Hotspot for the Port of Dublin. The Mega Hotspot will
cover all of the port area of Dublin and design to accommodate the
commercial ships visiting the harbour.
Coverage of the Port of Dublin
The
Mega Hotspot uses CDMA2000 revA and will initially offer up to 3.1Mbps
in download and up to 1.8Mbps in upload. This is higher than the
satellite connections that are commonly used by the commercial ships. A
further advantage is the much lower latency that will be experienced
compared to satellite.
The Mega Hot spot may later become an
integrated part of a nautical broadband network (NauticCom) covering the whole of
the Irish Sea with similar high data rates and low latency.
